Green light for the second railway track Koper – Divača

Slovenia: Construction works for the second railway track Koper – Divača will start next year

The Slovenian Minister of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Samo Omrzel announced on 18th October 2013 that next year Slovenia will start to build the second railway track Koper – Divača. The track, which is crucial for the long-term development of the Port of Koper, will be 27 km long and will allow drastic increase of cargo volumes. The modal split of the Port of Koper shows a high dependency on railway transport, since 60% of all cargo is coming and leaving the port by train.

The President of the Management Board Gašpar Mišič on this occasion said that “investing in transport and logistics infrastructure is of strategic importance for the development of Slovenia and for the Port. It is also an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe which represent our key markets, and last but not the least, it represents an important environmental and safety aspect.”
