„Shared Logistics Center“ advancing worldwide at DB Schenker

DB Schenker to add more than 30 new locations to the network of „Shared Logistics Centers“ in the next five years

DB Schenker Logistics is about to start a comprehensive program to establish „Shared Logistics Centers“ (SLC). In a press release the company announced the opening of more than 30 logistics centers worldwide, with around 500,000 m². The plants are to be built in strategic locations close to the hubs of freight traffic and in growth regions, where increased customer demand is anticipated in the medium term.

Besides optimisation of existing facilities and investment in customer-specific solutions, the SLC program shall create additional capacity for further growth in selected markets, and the expansion of activities in certain industry segments. These include the automotive industry, consumer goods, electronics, healthcare and plant construction. The program was started in 2012. At eight locations, including the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, South Africa and Dubai, new plants are already in operation. Construction of such a logistics centre in Dortmund was started recently.

„Our strategy of the Shared Logistics Center offers our clients the flexibility they need to meet the changing requirements of their business, be it seasonal or volume fluctuations, with more space needed for growth by variable modern plants or to create synergies through sharing of resources and facilities at a consistent high level of service,“ said Rob Walpole, Head of Logistics/Supply Chain Development, DB Schenker. „In addition, we help our customers to reduce their costs in the supply chain through the strategic locations and the thus enabled integration of complex distribution requirements we selected in a single service, and we will facilitate entry into developing markets.“
