Grimaldi increases frequency from Hamburg to West Africa

New built vessel of Grimaldi Lines was added to the con-ro fleet operating between Hamburg and West Africa’s ports:

The shipping line Grimaldi Lines increased the frequency of its "Southern Express“-liner service from Germany to West Africa, effective 26 September 2011. Deploying the new built vessel named „Grande Sierra Leone“, which called the Unikai at the Port of Hamburg for the first time, the enterprise increases the frequency via Hamburg to West Africa from every ten to every eight days. In total six con-ro vessels are now operated on the route from Hamburg – with stopovers in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre, Bilbao, Leixoes and Lisbon – to the West African ports Casablanca, Dakar, Conakry, Lome, Pointe Noire, Luanda and Douala.

The carriers of the grande class, which includes the new vessel, have a length of 201 metres, a draught of 9.5 metres and offer space for 2,000 cars/vans, 800 TEU as well as 2,000 loading metres with a gauge of 2.5 metres, for particularly big and heavy load such as trucks and building vehicles. General cargo is transported on roll trailers or loaded conventionally. The rear ramp can support 250 tons; the two on-board Liebherr cranes can each lift 45 tons.
