Green signal for the expansion of Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz

Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz to gain 4,000 m³ terminal area and an additional bulk warehouse before 2013:

Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz is expanding its capacities by constructing a new warehouse. The Economics Ministry in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is supporting the investments with subsidies totalling EUR 1.25 million. Jürgen Seidel, the Economics Minister, handed over the notification of the grants to the ports services provider on 26 September 2011.

The full potential in the bulk commodities sector cannot be tapped at the moment because of a lack of warehouse facilities. “Investments will now be made in a large warehouse measuring 4,500 m² in order to provide interim storage space for soda ash, cereals, limestone and chalk. The building is due to have been completed by 2013, ” said Economics Minister Jürgen Seidel in Sassnitz-Mukran on Monday. Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz is also making investments to pave a further 4,000 m² of terminal space next to the new bulk commodities warehouse.

“It’s our goal to expand and develop our business location at the ferryport of Sassnitz. We want to complete these investments by 2013 and therefore not only establish adequate capacity for our conventional business, but also create new jobs in the region,” says Heinrich Ahlers, Managing Director of the Buss Group based in Hamburg. The Buss Sea Terminal in Sassnitz was set up in 2005, employs currently 35 workers and is part of the Buss Ports division within the Hamburg-based Buss Group. The Fährhafen Sassnitz GmbH has a ten percent holding in Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz. The 35 employees are operating a 37,500 m² multi-purpose terminal with a 365 metres quay.

The Buss Ports location is made for the handling of bulk commodities, break bulk, heavy goods, project loads and containers. The location offers solutions for warehouse logistics and the organisation of complete transport chains. Moreover Buss Sea Terminal Sassnitz is the only location in Germany that has the equipment to load goods to Russian broad gauge wagons.
