Truck toll: a bitter pill for Austria’s transporters

Significantly increased toll for truck trips in Austria necessitates the adjustment of the “Kummer table“

The toll increase for trips with heavy trucks in Austria passed by the government, effective as of 1 January 2012, is considerably higher than it was previously suggested. University professor Dr. Sebastian Kummer, head of Institute for Transport and Logistics Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and managing associate of ZTL GmbH, emphasised on this in a press release.

According to the cabinet a toll increase with a valorisation of 2.8 per cent. However, the analyses of Sebastian Kummer draw a different picture. Accordingly the tolls for trucks equipped with Euro-5 and Euro-4 motors will rise 5.77 per cent; for vehicles with motors of the classes Euro 0 to Euro 3 by 5.32 per cent, and for trucks with EEV motors by 2.74 per cent. Tolls for not jet available Euro-6 vehicles will decline by 0.68 per cent.

The latest toll increase induced the professor to adjust his “Kummer table“. The reworked models are available for Austria, or for Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic in total and can be ordered digitally under skummer@wu.ac.at. There is no printed version available. On 1 January 2013 a “Kummer table“ including special tolls shall be published.
