GW takes holding in Diehl forwarding company (Esslingen)

Gebrüder Weiss Group takes measures to consolidate position in Germany-traffic

Having taken over the Serbian forwarding company Eurocargo in late autumn 2009, the Gebrüder Weiss (GW) is taking another step to consolidate its market position in European land transport. With effect from 12 January 2010 the transport and logistics group headquartered in Lauterach in Vorarlberg has taken over 25 per cent of the shares of the international forwarding company Wilhelm Diehl from Esslingen (Germany).

“Diehl is an important European partner we appreciate very much. With this minority shareholding we can save important market shares in the region of Baden-Württemberg“, CEO Wolfgang Niessner explains the motivation for the acquisition. Jürgen Wirsing, spokesman of the Diehl Management In addition to synergy effects for processes and infrastructure that will arise in the future, the alliance with GW is a commitment to a long-term and sustainable cooperation. The positioning of Diehl in its European network is further strengthened with this step.“

Gebrüder Weiss and the Diehl forwarding company have been cooperating for 11 years already. In this period the two companies established 17 direct transport lines – 13 of them daily. Moreover both companies are members of System Alliance Europe (SAE).
