Hamburg Süd restructures „Trident“-Service

Decline in “Trident”-service demand Hamburg Süd to take action

As of May 2009 Hamburg Süd will be restructuring its „Trident“-service, which connects northern Europe and Australia. This is the response of the shipping group to changing market conditions resulting from the sharp decline in volumes. This measure is also designed to reduce network costs on these routes.

Container shipments between Europe and Australia/New Zealand will be served through the hub port Cartagena (Colombia), which offers tailor-made transhipment connections to/from three weekly North Europe services, according to the statements of Hamburg Süd. Moreover, the modified “Trident“-concept offers enlarged port coverage to its customers by serving the ports of Rotterdam, Tilbury, Hamburg, Antwerp and Le Havre.

The transatlantic trade will continue to be served by a new independent service instead of the previous „Trident“-service, offering the same port coverage plus calls at the port of New York. The port rotation of the new service will be as follows: Tilbury, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Philadelphia, New York, Savannah and Tilbury.
