Hergarten expands its service range as steel forwarder

New plasma burner raises the profile of the Hergarten corporate group as service provider for the steel-processing industry

The Hergarten forwarding group expands its range of services in the field of prefabrication. The new plasma burner allows cross-cutting of sheet metal with a total length of up to ten meters, a width of up to three meters and a thickness of up to 45 millimetres. For steel forwarding customers this means they can now save this work step, allowing them to fully concentrate on their core competencies.

„We can now flexibly respond to the needs and requirements of our customers and increase their competitiveness: The production becomes more efficient and there is more time for the core business,“ says Marcel Hergarten, managing associate of Hergarten steel forwarding.

In addition to prefabrication with the plasma burner, also up to twelve meters long sheets can be stored at the Neuss-Holzheim location. The fleet is designed for such excess widths and lengths. Transportation can be carried out up to three meters under canvas-cover.

With approximately 360,000 shipments and a total tonnage of about 895,000 tonnes per year the steel logistics company is by its own definition an „expert in load security.“ The group with five offices throughout Germany provides complex just-in-time orders for automotive suppliers as well as planning, development and implementation of outsourcing projects.

Founded in 1902 at the Cologne location, the Hergarten corporate group is now family-owned in the fifth generation. As a specialist for distribution and transport of general cargo shipments of steel as well as full and part loads in the steel segment, Hergarten counts among the country’s leading logistics providers in this segment. At its locations in Cologne, Neuss, Neuss-Holzheim, Nürtingen and Frankenberg the company has a total storage space of 35,000 m2.
