HHLA Intermodal continues their growth course

For the Hamburg based HHLA Group, the increase of Far East traffic resulted in growth of container handling in mainly stagnating markets

The intermodal companies of the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) have extended their growth. In the first quarter 2014 container throughput in the seaport hinterland  operated by Metrans and Polzug  has increased again. With an increase of 5,1 per cent compared to the figures for last year, transport volumes amounted to 305.000 TEU. On the one hand,  this growth was generated by higher frequencies on the connection with the Czech Republic and Slovakia and on the other hand by the success of their new services in the German speaking regions. Here the company could further consolidate their market position  with a significantly higher transport volume. With a plus of 12,9 per cent to 82,9 million Euro turnover development outperformed volume development in the intermodal sector.

HHLA container handling increased by 2,4 per cent to 1,9 million TEU in the first quarter 2014. A significant factor in this development was Far East traffic. “This proves our capacity in a business environment that is still very challenging. A number of process innovations with regard to improved efficiency really paid off”, says HHLA board member Klaus-Dieter Peters. According to his statement, the operational result (EBIT) improved by 4,8 per cent to 39,3 million Euro. Group turnover increased by 6,8 per cent to 293,5 million Euro.
