HHLA Logistics handles 20,000 tons load for Siemens

Major order from Siemens brings lot of work to HHLA Logistics’ project division in Hamburg

Since recently the HHLA Logistics specialists are handling vast quantities of large packages for their key customer Siemens via the Port of Hamburg. Meeting a big order from the rail traffic sector, components manufactured by Siemens AG (Industry Sector, Mobility Division) are arriving from all over Europe in Hamburg to be exported by ship. Therefore packages received in very different sizes need to be consolidated at the HHLA Übersee-Zentrum and given seaworthy packing on oversized frames or in containers, as the enterprise tells in a press release.

Responsibility for handling altogether over 20,000 tons of cargo lies with HHLA Logistics, which has already shown their experience in cooperation with Siemens several times. The new contract saves jobs in the rapidly growing Project Logistics division of HHLA Logistics until 2012.

HHLA’s Übersee-Zentrum in Hamburg’s freeport serves as a hub for the Siemens project. The strengths of the location are seaworthy packing – especially for oversize and overweight export cargoes – and its trimodal links by road, rail and waterways. With sheds extending over 100,000 sq. m. and an additional covered area of 30,000 sq. m., all required ground conveyance equipment is available. HHLA’s floating cranes can together handle single loads of up to 300 tons at the waterside.
