New berths for inland shipping at Port of Rotterdam

Port of Rotterdam opens 1st section of Antarctica quay

On April 16, the Port of Rotterdam Authority started operating the 1st section of the Antarctica quay. The quay facility provides moorings for barges and tugs over a length of more than 600 metres. On the long term the authority plans to extend it to around 2,500 meters.

The Antarctica quay is situated alongside the mooring for the ferry between Hook of Holland and Maasvlakte. For the time being, it is divided into three sections. The first 75 metres are reserved for mooring tugs. The second section of 150 metres is designed as a standard pubic berth for inland shipping. The final section of around 300 metres will serve as a public waiting berth for ADN barges. The middle section of the quay is reinforced for handling heavy cargo.
