Hödlmayr International has become a logistics partner of Tesla recently

In the year 2018, Hödlmayr International AG, the vehicle logistics specialist based in the Mühlviertel region, Upper Austria, achieved a record turnover of EUR 285 million. This means an increase of around 5.5 per cent compared to the previous year. “Compared to 2015, we have grown by almost 20 per cent – and this in a quite challenging market environment,” CEO Johannes Hödlmayr explained at a press conference.

One reason for this positive development was a big order from their new customer Jaguar/Landrover in Graz, who entrusted Hödlmayr with the delivery of 62,000 new cars. The total order volume with Jaguar/Landrover was around EUR 12 million last year.

Hödlmayr is also seeing the continuous increase in electric vehicles. In addition to the E-models from Jaguar, the company has recently been responsible for the logistics of Tesla. The order volume amounts to around EUR 6.5 million annually. Overall, around 50,000 e-vehicles were delivered in the past
financial year, and the trend is still rising.

The handling of electric vehicles brings new challenges for the Hödlmayr team. For example, training and education – especially in the field of batteries – is necessary for the employees working in this area. This includes dealing with defective models as well as the professional extinguishing of possible fires.

Also when it comes to vehicle transporters, the E-models require additional investment. These are necessary because of the much higher weight of up to 2.5 tonnes per vehicle. “We have to gradually convert our fleet to more powerful vehicles. In 2018, we have purchased around 50 new vehicle transporters that meet these requirements,” said Johannes Hödlmayr.

In the current financial year, those in charge at Hödlmayr expect a significant slowdown in the economy and thus a decline in sales in the new car segment.”Of course, this will also affect our order situation. Despite the good capacity utilisation, we would see it as a success if we could repeat the record figures from 2018,” said the CEO.
