ICTSI takes over Croatian terminal

International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has officially taken over operations at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT).

Following the completion of the transaction between ICTSI and Luka Rijeka, ICTSI is the new majority shareholder in AGCT.

According to Manuel Fernandez, ICTSI senior vice president for the EMEA region, the company has undertaken comprehensive planning in recent weeks and will begin to implement works to upgrade the terminal and its service capabilities.

Upgrade plans include new quayside and landside cranes, mobile equipment, vessel planning and terminal management systems, a new terminal entrance with direct access to the highway and a range of other improvements.

This is in addition to the new 300 metre deep draught quay (-14.5m) currently under construction and scheduled to come into service in early-2013.

AGCT’s role is to function as a gateway terminal to the Balkans as a whole and to Hungary.

In parallel with the development of AGCT, which will see an investment in the order of €70 million, the Croatian rail system between Rijeka and Zagreb is to be upgraded as well as liberalised to enable rail operations to take place.

Manila, Philippines-based ICTSI manages the operations and development of 23 marine terminals and port projects in seventeen countries around the world.
