IMS group (Vienna) enters Polish market

Location in Katowice of the container operator IMS offer solutions for maritime and continental transport

The private Austrian container operator IMS is still steering a course of expansion. Having integrated Vectura s.r.o. (Bratislava) into the group of companies, they have now established a presence in Katowice in Poland. IMS Cargo Poland sp. z o.o. is headed by Slawomir Tubek, previous manager of PKP and in charge of the intermodal segment of the Polish national railway for several years.

The range of services of the Polish location comprises solutions in the field of maritime and continental transport. CEO Wolfgang Tomassovich wants to boost the latter ones, „as the maritime market in Poland, like in Austria, is under massive price pressure and not much money is to be earned in this segment“.

From the strategic point of view the IMS group pursues two targets with its location in Katowice. First the management wants to serve the national market, which has around 40 million inhabitants and is quite interesting. Second, a gateway for transportations from and two Russia shall be established in Poland.

IMS was founded in 1992 in Vienna and has started operating in October of the next year. Since 1996 the enterprise has been driving train products at its own risk. For 2010 the management expects a consolidated transport volume of around 120,000 TEU. Their 50 employees will generate a consolidated turnover of more than EUR 30 million.
