“K” Line deploys new generation ULCVs 

Japan’s “K” Line orders five new “container giants” with more than 13,000 TEU carrying capacity
 
A new generation of vessels is to set sail with Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. or “K” Line. The shipping company recently announced it has ordered five ULCVs (Ultra Large Container Vessels) with nominal container carrying capacity of 13,870 TEU. The order was placed at the Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. shipyard. Delivery of the newbuildings is expected for spring to summer 2015. The ULCVs have a length of about 366 meters, beam of 51,2 meters and depth of 29.9 meters.
 
The new generation eco-friendlier ULCVs shall replace units of the existing fleet in order to strengthen efficiency and cost competitiveness of “K” Line’s containership business and result in remarkable improvement of both efficiency and cost competitiveness, the shipping company informs in a press release. 
 
Established in 1919 Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. headquartered in Tokyo operates a fleet of 547 vessels of different construction types and is a member of the CKYH – Green Alliance.
