KV: direct rail link between Northern Germany and Italy

Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co KG starts its first direct rail service between the Baltic seaport of Kiel and Verona with feeder options to Sweden

Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG is launching its first train between the Baltic Sea port Kiel and Verona, Italy. The new rail service is to start on 7 October (after the scheduled opening of the Brenner block) and is to be operated two times weekly in the initial stage, offering a capacity of 1,300 tonnes of payload. This direct rail service between Verona and Kiel makes the previously necessary change in Hamburg-Billwerder dispensable. Daily shuttle trains linking Kiel and the gateway terminal Hamburg-Billwerder will remain unchanged. The daily shuttle trains from and to Hamburg links the Baltic Sea port also to the entire European network of Kombiverkehr in future as well.

“This new direct rail offering allows us to increase capacity on this route and at the same time create slots on other Italy-trains", says Robert Breuhahn, Managing Director Kombiverkehr. Days of dispatch in Verona are Tuesday and Saturday, in Kiel Wednesday and Sunday. Moreover all departures and arrivals in Kiel-Schwedenkai are adjusted according to the ferry offer from/to Gotenborg-Majnabbe. Forwarders may reserve the complete transportation including ferry and feeder services to Sweden through a single booking with Kombiverkehr. Kombiverkehr’s partners are the ferry service provider Stena Line and the Italian combined operator Cemat.
