Lehnkering to be integrated into Imperial group

Acquisition of Lehnkering Holding helps Imperial group to enhance its service portfolio in Europe:

In a press release the South African Imperial Holdings Ltd. announces the acquisition of 100 per cent of the Lehnkering Holding GmbH (Duisburg). The transaction is still subject to the competition approval by the European Commission. “This strategic acquisition boosts our market presence in Europe. In particular the important position of Lehnkering in the chemical logistics industry enhances our service portfolio“, explains Gerhard Riemann, Executive Director Imperial Holdings Ltd. (Duisburg).

The Lehnkering group generates about 80 per cent of its turnover through customers from the chemical industry. The corporate group is specialising in river shipping and road cargo transport of chemical products and steel products. The two divisions Distribution Logistics & Services (warehouses for the distribution of chemical end products) and Chemical Manufacturing Services (order handling of chemical substances) complete the Imperial group’s product portfolio.

The integration into the Imperial group boosts Lehnkering’s global presence as well as its service portfolio. The enterprise will keep its firm name under the management of the Imperial group. The Lehnkering group has currently 2,700 employees and generates an annual operating turnover of EUR 55 million in its divisions Shipping Logistics & Services, Road Logistics & Services, Distribution Logistics& Services and Chemical Manufacturing Services.

Also based in Duisburg, Imperial Logistics International GmbH (Duisburg), a 100%-subsidiary of the South African Imperial Holdings Ltd., is in charge of coordination and management of all international logistics business activities of the Imperial Holdings group outside of Africa. The acquisition of Lehnkering raises staff to about 6,200 persons and operating turnover to more than EUR 1.4 billion.

The South African Imperial Holdings Ltd. is registered at the stock exchange and focuses on car trading, car rental and tourism as well as logistics. In total the group has about 40,000 employees, who generated lately an annual turnover of EUR 6.8 billion.
