Less container traffic at Port of Singapore

Clear decline in container throughput at Port of Singapore

Container throughput at Port of Singapore has considerably declined in 2009. According to the figures published last week 25.9 million TEU in total were handled at the six terminals in the south-east-Asian city state. This is a decline of around 13.5 per cent compared to the previous year.

In the reporting period 25.14 million TEU, or 13.1 per cent less than in 2008 were handled at the five terminals of the public port logistics enterprise PSA. In addition to activities in Europe, Asia and South America the group’s annual report 2009 shows a total volume of 31.78 million TEU (down 9.9 per cent). The group has taken a great number of cost-saving measures to encounter this development, the Management announces in a release, without giving any further details.
