LH Cargo: From the balance heaven to hell and back again

Lufthansa Cargo AG posts record results for 2010 after record losses in 2009

After the crisis year 2009, with the worst annual balane until then, the page turned for the better in 2010 for Lufthansa Cargo AG: For 2010 Karl Ulrich Garnadt, since January Chairman, and Peter Gerber, Board Member Finance and Human Resources, presented the best result at the annual press conference at Frankfurt Airport. All economic figures soared up despite some difficulties in 2010.

LH Cargo transported 1.8 million tons of freight in the reporting period and sold 8.90 billion freight ton kilometres; this increased the load factor to 71 per cent for the first time. These volumes were mainly handled with 18 freight aircrafts of the McDonnell-Douglas MD-11F type. In the annual average 4,469 staff were employed. The group-intern cooperation with Lufthansa Austrian Airlines Cargo develops quite positive.

Turnover 2010 amounted to EUR 2.8 billion with an operating result of EUR 310 million; both are record figures. Lufthansa Cargo is quite optimistic for 2011 and the following years. LH Cargo will face the fierce competition, particularly from the Middle East, in conscience of its own strength and innovative force, as the CEOs Garnadt and Gerber emphasise.
