Lidl establishes new logistics facility in Wundschuh near Graz

Food discounter Lidl Austria to invest about EUR 60 million to construct the group’s most sustainable logistics facility in Europe

In Wundschuh in the political district Graz-Umgebung, a new logistics facility is being constructed since Tuesday, on behalf of the food-discounter Lidl Austria. The investment totals EUR 60 million, as reports the ORF Steiermark broadcast station. Operation of the facility shall start in autumn 2015.

After completion the logistics facility in Wundschuh will provide 37,000 m² space for 18,000 Euro pallets. It is said to be the first warehouse in the country to be operated without harmful greenhouse gas emissions. This becomes possible through the use of natural cooling methods, says Alexander Deopito, head of Lidl Austria. A 5,000 m² photovoltaic system is to be installed on the roof of the building. The facade of the office building will be made from wood from Styria.

About 200 persons will be employed at the new regional storage. 50 of them will come from other locations in Styria, and 150 jobs will be created. The building complex in Wundschuh will serve as a hub for the supply of about 60 Lidl branches in Styria, Carinthia and in southern Burgenland.
