LogServ acquires new plant locomotives with improved technology

Gmeinder locomotives of the 903 series with engines with start/stop function shall reduce costs and emissions with LogServ in future

For its plant railway the Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ) acquires newly developed locomotives of the 903 series the Gmeinder company. The new locomotives must meet high demands in terms of flexibility, technical requirements and operating costs.

The locomotive distinguishes itself by a new look and improved technology, such as a new generation of engines. The use of the new MTU engine brings significant savings in life cycle costs, which is ensured, among other things, by the start/stop function of the engine: during stops the motor switches off, and there are less maintenance and fuel costs, and lower emissions.

„In addition, all future locomotives will be equipped with a maintenance management system by the manufacturer already. The status information of the entire locomotive – engine, transmission, cooling, etc. – will contribute to the optimisation of maintenance and prevention of damage,“ reads a mailing of LogServ.

The Logistik Service GmbH (Linz) was founded in 2001 as a subsidiary of voestalpine Stahl GmbH. The full-service provider has decades of experience in the field of industrial logistics and is mainly responsible for customers in the metal production and processing industry, building materials and process industries, machine and plant construction, as well as the automotive and automotive supplier industry.

In the railway sector they serve operators of plant railways and sidings, private railway companies and private freight car renting companies. The LogServ subsidiary Cargo Service GmbH (CargoServ) is a private railway company and offers alternative concepts for cargo transportation by block trains on the public rail network. At the voestalpine location in Linz LogServ Austria operates the largest railway siding and a private port on the Danube with powerful handling facilities.
