Luker Koper passes the benchmark of 400,000 TEU for the first time

Above-average growth of container traffic at the Slovenian seaport of Koper in the past five years

At the beginning of this week Luka Koper d.d. broke a new “sound barrier“. On 8 November the 400,000th box (in TEU) was put through at the container terminal this year. This is a new record in the company’s history. In the year 2009 Port of Koper handled a total volume of 343,165 TEU in container traffic. In 2008 they posted 353,890 TEU.

According to statements of Luka Koper d.d. almost double the volume of the past five years is handled in 2010 at the container terminal. As a reason for the rapid growth the management names the integration of the port into new liner services in the Mediterranean Sea and the routes between the Far East and Europe. Another factor were the steps taken in the latest history to improve operations in hinterland transport on the railway they add.
