Maersk Line is in the black in the first quarter of 2014

Danish container shipping company Maersk Line has done its homework in the first three months of 2014 and defied the declining freight rates

Maersk Line, the Danish container shipping company, has a good start into 2014. From January to March the company achieved operative profit of USD 454 million, notwithstanding the 5.1 per cent drop in freight rates. This was opposed to the successfully implemented reduction of costs per item by 9.1 per cent, accompanied by a less strained situation with bunker prices, compared to the previous year.

In addition Maersk Line registered an increase in volume. They moved about 4.4 million TEU worldwide in the first three months of 2014. Thus the shipping company has surpassed the reference figure from 2013 by 7.3 per cent.
