Contargo AG to offer integrated services for container transportations via the Swiss hub in Basel from January 2011

Basler MultiTerminal AG (BMT) and Contargo Alpina AG, also based in Basel, are joining their forces. With effect from 1 January 2011 the two trimodal container terminals of the former BMT at the port of Kleinhüningen will merge with the hinterland container transport business segment of Contargo Alpina AG into Contargo AG. As neutral service provider the new enterprise will offer depot services and hinterland container transportation for the Swiss market. Peter Widmer, Chairman of the bord of directors: “The fusion is for the benefit of all parties concerned. We are reducing the number of interfaces and give customers a contact person.” All members of the staff will be taken over by the new company.

Contargo AG offers a complete range of services relating to combined transport. Their inland waterway transportations with a high frequency schedule between Switzerland and Rotterdam or Antwerp respectively plays a major role. Rail services and truck transportations as additional transport modes complete the portfolio. Moreover the enterprise organises transit and customs clearance and assumes special tasks such as stripping and stuffing of containers or temperature controlled transportations. The offering is completed by depot services covering Switzerland, plus trade with used containers. The main users of this product range are specialised forwarders and shipping depot customers.
