MMD picks Gregory for produce

Gregory Distribution has taken over responsibility for distribution for fresh fruit and vegetables handled by MMD at Portsmouth International Port.

MMD expects to benefit from the larger scale operation, with some MMD staff transferring to Gregory Distribution. Drivers will continue to work from the Portsmouth International Port and will be joined by Gregory drivers from its base in Chichester.

Martin Putman, Managing Director at Portsmouth International Port said: “We have worked hard to reach a deal with Gregory Distribution that delivers even higher levels of service for customers of MMD, while protecting the professional drivers who work tirelessly for our company, which is owned by Portsmouth City Council.”

Gregory now operates from 17 sites as far afield as Scotland and West Cornwall. It has over 500 trucks driving 70 million miles a year, 1,500 employees and a turnover of £140 million.
