MSC launches “business plan” for services from Europe to Asia

Container shipping company MSC increases shipping rates for liner services from Europe to ports in the Far and Middle East:

Referred to as "business plan" the Mediterranean shipping company (MSC) implements a concept to stabilize the economic situation for the connections from Europe to ports of destination in the Middle East (including Persian Gulf and Iran) and in the Far East. The implementation is done in several stages in the period between 1 February and 1 March 2012. The new regulations affect all categories of goods to varying degrees.

The "business plan" covers all ports of shipment in Europe – ranging from Russia and the Baltic States to the north-western continent, the northern Adriatic and eastern Mediterranean Sea. The increase in freight rates varies depending on the categories of goods, the container dimensions as well as the ports of departure and ports of destination.

In the best case the additional costs to be paid by the carriers and direct customers amount to USD 50 per box. At 40′ boxes and special consignments (open top, flat rack, platform, reefer) the price increase is 200 USD on average per transported unit.
