New liner service on the Danube corridor in the pipeline

Ennshafen presents new study to prepare a regular liner service on the Danube between Enns and Galatz

As a preparation for the setup of a regular liner service on the Danube waterway between Enns and Galatz a study was presented these days at Ennshafen port. In the frame of this project a combined container and ro-ro service with scheduled departures shall be developed in order to reach a shift of transport from the road to the waterway. The focus lies on bulk goods, heavy haulage and

high value bulk goods in continental traffic.

The Romanian harbour city Galatz, which signed a cooperation agreement with Ennshafen OÖ GmbH in 2008, offers enormous opportunities to serve the Romanian hinterland, as well as the Black Sea region by short sea shipping and the Russian broad gauge, as a press release reads.

The „KoLEG“ study will investigate the railway as a „back-up system“. Further issues are the initial situation, a market analysis, a river shipping concept, the target group for such a liner service as well as handling recommendations and the implementation.
