New organisational structure of Rail Cargo Group

Revised organisational structure of Rail Cargo Group to shift more cargo to rail in the future

The cargo transport division of ÖBB Holding will be focusing on the areas of rail transport and rail freight forwarding in the future. The basis therefore is the new organisational structure, which has been approved recently by the supervisory board, and will become effective on January 1, 2014. It provides for the diversification of activities in the core business through five divisions, which should be completed with the use of all available means as good as possible in daily business.

In detail, the new organisational structure of the Rail Cargo Group is as follows: The rail freight forwarding services previously provided by the companies Express-Interfracht, Agrofreight and and Chemfreight will be integrated in the new umbrella brand Rail Cargo Logistics. Rail Cargo Operator assumes responsibility for all transport functions in connection with accompanied intermodal transport (previously Ökombi) and unaccompanied intermodal transport. The own traction services in Austria and in selected foreign markets fall within the competence of Rail Cargo Carrier. Rail Cargo Wagon will join wagon management operations. The maintenance of the rolling stock lies in the hands of ÖBB Technische Services.

The general cargo and warehousing logistics service functions bundled in contract logistics are extracted from Rail Cargo Austria and integrated into a new subsidiary of ÖBB Holding, called ECL European Contract Logistics (managing director: Günter Birnstingl), based in Vienna.
