New ropax-line between Venice and the Near East

Visemar Line starts direct link from Italy to Egypt and Syria

As of May 2010 a direct, weekly ropax line will link Venice to Egypt and Syria. The service will be operated by Visemar Line. They deploy a newly built vessel that offers a maximum capacity for 2,860 metres of rolling load, 70 cars and 360 passengers. Moreover, the ship is equipped with 100 reefer plugs.

Transit time between the Port of Venice and Tartous is 68 hours, or 60 hours between Alexandria and Venice, respectively. A door-to-door delivery service brings perishables like fruit and vegetable products from Alexandria to Vienna within 72 hours.

The new logistics services of the Port of Venice gain importance for the Central European market. Because of the significantly shorter transport times, they are an alternative to the traffic via the ports on the north continent. "The Near East and North Africa thus approach a bit further to Middle Europe with the ropax service to Venice v.v.", the initiative Venetia Logistics and the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Austria write in a joint press release.
