New team for waterway-management with via donau

Waterway management of via-donau serves as central contact point for maintenance and development of infrastructure

For the customers of via donau a modern and efficient waterway infrastructure is a prerequisite for their commercial activities on the Danube. In the renewed and extended construction and shipping meeting on October 23, 2013 in the Servicecenter Wachau Hans-Peter Hasenbichler, Managing Director via donau, informed users of the Austrian section of the Danube about the bundling of core tasks of the waterway management in the conservation of the company.

via the Danube offers customers from October 1, 2013 the new team for waterway management – headed by Markus Simoner. It will be a contact point in terms of maintenance and development of infrastructure. In addition to optimising the maintenance of waterway infrastructure and water engineering structures, the team is also responsible for introduction and development of IT-based management systems and for the international coordination of standards for waterway maintenance in the Danube region, for example in the framework of the EU-funded project NEWADA duo.

To know the requirements of the users of the waterway, via donau will regularly convene meetings on construction and shipping in spring and autumn. This meeting has been expanded both in terms of the addressees as well as the content. At the first meeting in the new format on October 23, 2013 around 45 participants met in Krems, including shipping and logistics companies, private quay operators and border authorities responsible for maintaining the infrastructure of the Danube waterway organisations. Apart from via donau these are the public Danube ports, Verbund Hydro Power and the City of Vienna/MA 45.

Conservation measures in the fairway, in the locks and in the public Danube ports and the operation and maintenance of the Danube locks were presented and discussed. via donau presented the proactive maintenance, low-water-level predictions and the pilot project Bad Deutsch-Altenburg in the east of Vienna.
