News from APL / NOL

APL develops a new intermodal container terminal in Joliet, Illinois; and NOL’s joint venture container terminal in Qingdao opens for business well ahead of schedule.

APL has confirmed the purchase of 43 acres of land in the city of Joliet, Illinois, to develop its latest intermodal container terminal in the US. Located within the CenterPoint Intermodal Center, the largest inland port in the US, APL’s new container yard will be close to the Union Pacific and BNSF Intermodal Rail Terminals, as well as numerous customer warehouse and distribution centres.
Due for completion by December 2011, the container yard will function as APL’s Chicago Global Gateway, and will eventually replace APL’s container terminal in Chicago, Illinois, which has been operational since 1985.

In other news, NOL has opened its new terminal at the Port of Qingdao with the arrival of the APL Dubai.

Originally expected to open in the second half of 2011, the joint venture container terminal opened for business well ahead of schedule.
