“Ökoliner” on Austria’s roads

Central association of forwarders wants to see the "Ökoliner" on Austria’s roads:

The Austrian association of forwarders – Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik (ZV) wants to have the "Ökoliner“ trucks" approved for Austria. With the waiver of a maximum permissible weight of 60 tons, as it is the case in Sweden, the association wants to create a positive atmosphere in the competent Ministries. Also with a maximum weight of 40 to 44 tons, divided to seven, instead of the usual five axes, the long truck would considerably reduce diesel consumption and CO2-emissions. As Max Schachinger jun., divisional manager of Schachinger Logistik Holding GmbH & Co KG, explained the Ökotainer can save 15 to 30 per cent of fuel and as much CO2 per ton kilometre.

Length was the only extendable dimension of a truck, as the representatives of the ZV said at a press conference in Vienna. With a length of 25.25 metres the "Ökoliner" is partiuclarly suitable for the transport of big-volume goods, that are not well suited for the railway. The focus lies on routes at lengths comparable to Salzbug-Linz or Wien-Graz.

As Dkfm. Harald Bollmann, President of the Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik, emphasised, it was not necessary to expand Austria’s road to use the "Ökoliner". The vehicle was well suited for circulars and curves. It is designed for depot-depot transport, not for delivery.
