OPDR makes large-scale investments on the Iberian Peninsula

Seven new offices of the Oldenburg-Portugiesische Dampfschiffs-Rhederei (OPDR) in Spain and Portugal
 
The OPDR (Oldenburg-Portugiesische Dampfschiffs-Rhederei) announces the opening of seven new offices in Spain and Portugal. As of now more than 60 new employees of the Hamburg-based short sea shipping company are operating at five locations in Spain – in Madrid, Sevilla, Cadiz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Portuguese offices in Lisbon and Leixoes (Porto) started operating with the start of the year. More investments on the Iberian Peninsula are in the pipeline.
 
“This is the time to invest in our core markets in Spain and Portugal“, says Till Ole Barrelet, managing director of OPDR. “In spite of the difficult economic situation in both countries we expect a long-term consolidation of the Spanish and Portuguese markets. Demand for logistics services will rise further there. Short sea shipping is a reliable, cost-effective and season-independent alternative for truck transport.“
 
In addition to cargo transport in pallet-wide containers with optimised storage space OPDR sees particular potential in the transport of temperature-sensitive goods in special refrigerated containers, which can be shipped from Spain and Portugal to Northern Europe, Scandinavia and Russia within a few days. All of the seven new offices are affiliated to OPDR Iberia, a 100%-subsidiary of the Hamburg-based ODPR founded in summer 2012. OPDR Iberia is currently operating eight offices in Spain and Portugal.
