Opening of the new DB Schenker Klagenfurt terminal

DB Schenker wants to consolidate and enhance its leading position in the market for transport and logistics services in Carinthia

With DB Schenker Austria, September 9th was dedicated to the opening of the new terminal for logistics and forwarding services in Klagenfurt. The facility at the site on the Klagenfurt airport the terminal replaces the previous site in Raiffeisenstraße 13 and is the workplace for around 80 employees. They provide transport and logistics solutions using all traffic carriers, including outsourcing concepts featuring storage and a variety of additional services.

DB Schenker has invested around EUR 10 million into the construction of the facility. The new building consists of 2,500 m² office area, a 2,500 m²throughput hall equipped with 34 loading gates and 35 video cameras as well as a 2,000 m² logistics hall providing 2,400 pallet slots for trading goods, raw materials and finished goods. With the completion of the rail connection to the Klagenfurt terminal, the future integration of transportation by rail in the logistics chain of Carinthia’s industry and commercial businesses is finally possible.

"We are among the leading providers in Carinthia both in European overland transportation as well as in air and sea freight. We want to consolidate and expand these positions with the new terminal", Mag. Elmar Wieland, Chairman of the Board of Schenker & Co AG for Austria and the South East Europe region, explained to journalists.

Branch manager Klaus Hermetter referred to the new location as a state-of-the-art site, which offers services from package distribution to project transport, from national overland transportation to intercontinental transport chains, both for major companies as well as for small customers and SMBs.
