Panalpina carried Antonov 124 freighter to Linz

Heavy air freight to Saudi Arabia: Last weekend a 99.4 tonnes facility for the production of artificial fertiliser was transhipped at Linz airport

On behalf of Panalpina forwarding an Antonov 124 of Volga-Dnepr has landed in Linz last week-end. The order consisted in the transport of an apparatus for the fertiliser industry by Schöller-Bleckmann Nitec GmbH to Saudi Arabia.

“For blue danube airport linz handling an AN-124 is not an every-day event and an operative motivation. I want to thank our partner Panalpina and their customer to chose again the Linz airport and coordinated the entire project in a proven manner“, says DI Gerhard Kunesch, managing director of the Flughafen Linz GesmbH.

A maximum take-off weight of 450 tonnes and a payload of 150 tonnes makes the AN-124 the world’s biggest cargo aircraft. This “giant of the skies” has two cranes inside its cargo hold, allowing for fast loading and unloading. Moreover the nose landing gear and the two back wheel pairs can be lowered hydraulically. The freighter has a loading capacity of 1,000 m³ and allows vehicles to enter in the front and in the back as well.
