HMM Holds Naming Ceremony for ‘Hyundai Dream’

HMM holds naming ceremony for the largest container vessel currently in Korea

13,100 TEU container vessel ‘Hyundai Dream’ was delivered to Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM); the ship will operate on its Asia-Europe line

On February 28, a naming ceremony for the ‘Hyundai Dream’ was held at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s (DSME) Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. The ‘Hyundai Dream’ is a 13,100 TEU container vessel, 365.5 meters long, 48.4 meters wide, and 29.9 meters deep. Ordered in 2011, and delivered to HMM at DSME on February 28 2014 for a special naming ceremony, it is the largest container vessel currently operating in Korea.

In addition to the ‘Hyundai Dream’, HMM will also receive five more 13,100 TEU containers in progression, and deploy them on its Asia-Europe line. Once all ships are in operation, HMM will possess ten 13,100 TEU container vessels, in total, which is anticipated to raise the company’s global competitiveness with the increase in sales force and decrease in operating cost based on the economy of scale.

‘Hyundai Dream’ minimizes CO2 emission and maximizes fuel efficiency with its eco-friendly electronic engine, effectively contributing to both a green environment and increased sales.

Following the naming ceremony, the ‘Hyundai Dream’ embarked to its first port of call, Kwangyang Port, in South Korea. The vessel will be deployed on ‘Loop 5’, which is an Asia-North Europe line passing Kwangyang – Pusan – Shanghai – Chiwan – Yantian – Singapore – Rotterdam – Hamburg – Thamesport – Singapore – Kwangyang.
