Port of Hamburg Marketing mourns Claudia Roller

Port of Hamburg Marketing deeply regrets the passing of Claudia Roller, former Chair of its Executive Board, who died on January 11th at the age of 64. Claudia Roller worked for Port of Hamburg Marketing from 1 April 2008 until 31 December 2013, initially as a member of its Executive Board, later as Joint CEO. With tremendous commitment, along with board colleague Axel Mattern, she successfully headed the Port of Hamburg’s marketing organisation.

CEO Axel Mattern has spoken appreciatively of Claudia Roller: “The news of her death has hit us hard. Claudia enjoyed an excellent reputation as an expert on the seaport transport business in Hamburg and internationally. Colleagues, members and business partners alike valued her for unfailing frankness and honesty. In particular, we have Claudia’s dedication to thank for making our marketing organisation fit for the future during this past decade, and able to position itself with a fresh strategy in Hamburg and throughout Germany.”

In the course of her career, Claudia Roller amassed professional experience in both shipping companies and port operations. Having qualified as a shipping manager, as a Key Account Manager she looked after major customers for Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) between 1984 and 2001. She then became Sales & Marketing Manager for HHLA’s Container Terminals Altenwerder (CTA), Burchardkai (CTB) und Tollerort (CTT). In addition, from 2000 to 2006 Claudia Roller was active as a member of the quay tariff committee of the Association of Port of Hamburg Enterprises (UVHH). In 2006 she started work as General Marketing Manager for HHLA Intermodal, before joining Port of Hamburg Marketing’s Executive Board on 1 April 2008.
