Port of Rostock courts Austrian customers

Rostock Port provides wide offer in the Baltic Sea to importers and exporters from Austria

Interest in enhancing the cooperation with Austrian companies is what Ulrich Bauermeister, Managing Director of the Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock mbH company shows. At an evening event in Vienna he presented the location as one of the most important ports with a very high throughput volume in the Baltic Sea. “Ferry traffic with Scandinavia, Finland and the Baltic States has developed particularly rapid in the past years. Thanks to the enlargement of the European Union Rostock is gaining importance as a hub and the biggest economic location in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the logistics industry in Austria as well“, says Bauermeister.

Rostock Port has put through 21.5 million tons of goods last year. Ferry goods accounted for about half of this (10.2 million tons), followed by bulk goods with 5.4 million tons, liquid goods with 4 million tons and ro-ro goods with 1.5 million tons. At the combined transport terminal 63,442 units were dispatched. The growth driver of business relations with shippers in Austria is the regular block train from/to Wels.
