Port of Vienna registers increase in waterway transhipment

Hafen Wien group continues investments; Extension of the sheet-pile wall in the Albern port by 100 meters
 
Regarding waterway transhipment, the year 2012 has developed positively in the port of Vienna. “Compared with 2011 the volume rose 9 per cent. The growth drivers were the cargo types mineral oil and bulk goods“, said Friedrich Lehr, managing director, at the New Year reception of the Hafen Wien group. The cargo volume handled at the WienCont terminal in Freudenau at 425,000 TEU reached the second highest value in the company history.
 
In the past six years the port of Vienna has invested more than EUR 150 million to modernise and expand its facilities; EUR 25 million thereof in the year 2012. They are currently implementing a project to extend the sheet-pile in the port of Albern wall by 100 meters. In line with that, 3,000 m² of additional area is being created for the provision of port logistic services.
