Premiere at trimodal Rhenus terminal in Moscow

First blocktrain leaves Rhenus terminal in Moscow

Rhenus Group opens up a new chapter in Russia. OOO Rhenus-Yuzhny Port, the joint venture between OOO Rhenus Port Logistics (Moscow) and OAO Yuzhniy Retschnoj Port, has handled the first blocktrain on 8 October. The „shuttle“ transported 64 units of 40 ft empty containers to destinations in Russia’s hinterland.

During the past weeks the containers have been forwarded by trucks from all parts of the city to the multimodal terminal of OOO Rhenus-Yuzhny Port at Moscow’s largest inland port. As most of Moscow’s railway stations only have limited space to store containers, the joint venture is the first private terminal to offer this special service. „Customers have several advantages by using the dispatch services on our terminal. The use of the blocktrain is fast and cheap, and replaces many truck trips. Moreover we can store the containers for a longer period and repair or clean them on demand“, says Thomas Maaßen, Managing Director of Rhenus Port Logistics, Moscow.

The trimodal terminal at the Moskwa-river, which has been operated by OOO Rhenus-Yuzhny Port since November 2008, is mainly used as a depot for empty containers at the moment. It offers a 80,000 sq.m.-area available for expansion if required.
