RCA and Forst Holz Papier renew their agreement

Austria’s forestry and wood industry supports Rail Cargo Austria in restructuring wood transportations

The cooperation between the platform Forst Holz Papier and Rail Cargo Austria to restructure wood transport on the rail is to be continued. In a press release both partners announce the renewal of their agreement valid until end 2012. In autumn 2012 the basis should be created for a stable, several years package, in order to secure sustainable, top-European cargo transport performance.

In the frame of this partnership between Forst Holz Papier and Rail Cargo Austria a joint platform was established in 2011. Its target is to make wood transport more cost efficient and to secure environmentally friendly rail transport economically and sustainably. Now negotiations for 2012 have come to an end. For the years 2013 to 2015 another long term partnership is aimed at. After clarification of sustainable network structure and monetary effects of the state’s single wagon support, this shall help setting up a several years package.

“Rail Cargo Austria and the forestry, wood and paper industry have been maintaining a partnership for many years. Renewing their agreement until the end of 2012, and conducting further negotiations about a long term package of agreements, they have set the next action to jointly restructure wood transportations“, explains Erik Regter, CEO RCA. “The basis therefore are economical wood transportations on the railway, which make up one third of single wagon traffic in Austria.“
