20,000th shipment transported on DB Schenker’s Danube Nordic Shuttle

DB Schenker Logistics’ combined rail service Danube Nordic Shuttle offers two weekly rotations on the Vienna/Wels-Rostock corridor

DB Schenker Logistics’ combined rail service Danube Nordic Shuttle has reached another remarkable interim benchmark: They recently transported the 20,000th shipment. The intermodal rail service offers shippers an environmentally friendly alternative. The shuttle connects Vienna and Wels with Rostock with two departures a week.

“Our intermodal train connection between central and northern Europe has been a great success to date,” says Reinhard Just, board member responsible for road transport at Schenker & Co AG, Vienna. “The fact that we have already loaded our 20,000th shipment on this train is a testimony in our view to the reliability and convenience of the timetable for industry and trade.”

The Danube Nordic Shuttle transports 32 units per journey – swap bodies, trailers (tarpaulin, thermal and mega-trailers) and containers with a load capacity of up to 28 tons. The Danube Nordic Shuttle has just one third of the carbon dioxide emissions of normal road traffic on the same route and is not affected by night-time and weekend driving bans, toll charges or diesel price fluctuations.
