RCA Intermodal to enhance its maritime transport

RCA Intermodal plans to consolidate and complement its market position on the routes from/to Koper and Trieste

In spite of the fierce economic situation – e.g. on the routes between Austria and the north-range ports Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam – Intermodal Logistics remains a business division that has major strategic importance for Rail Cargo Austria. “Carrying more than half a million units per year, we are a big player in this market segment in Europe. We will adhere to this tradition. We will keep and improve our products where our intermodal transport economically make sense," Erik Regter, executive director, says in an interview with the Austrian transport magazine Österreichische Verkehrszeitung.

In line with that go various plans, one of them being the program for more efficient use of the competitive advantages on the routes for maritime transport from the economic centers in Central and Southeastern Europe to Koper/Trieste and back. In this context Erik Excited aims at complementing the existing services to and from Austria, southern Germany and Hungary by system traffic with source and target locations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. "We are also working on a new concept for Romania and Southeastern Europe with the introduction of mixed trains with own traction for conventional rail freight and containers playing an important role," he draws another future scenario.

In addition a regular mixed train product from Austria to Romania (also with continuous own traction) is in the pipeline, inlcuding the option to forward shipments to the growth market Turkey and back.
