RCA road transport transferred to Transdanubia forwarding

Cooperation of ÖBB and Transdanubia forwarding creates basis for Rail Cargo Austria’s withdrawal from road transport business

Rail Cargo Austria, the cargo division of ÖBB, is to completely withdraw from road transport business. They created the basis therefore a few weeks ago by agreeing a reciprocal cooperation with Transdanubia forwarding company. Accordingly the company based in Pasching will handle all road transport operations of RCA in Austria. RCA in turn will handle cargo transport on the rail, reports the newspaper OÖ Nachrichten in the weekend-edition.

As for the Transdanubia forwarding company, this cooperation with RCA means an additional annual turnover of about EUR 32 million. Franz Grad, Head of the company, sees growth potential in this volume. They conducted first negotiations in October. Initially he had been reserved, in the meantime he takes the view that this will be a profitable cooperation, as the OÖ Nachrichten paper cites the entrepreneur. Transdanubia’s staff will grow by 30 employees to about 250 by the end of this year.

Withdrawing from road business brings RCA closer to their plan to focus on services in the segments rail transport and rail forwarding in Austria and Southeast Europe. The next action planned by ÖBB head Christian Kern in line with the reorganisation of ÖBB cargo transport is to gradually turn down river shipping operations and air freight forwarding.
