Icelandair appoints WFS in Washington Dulles; Drax Power awards new contract to DB Schenker Rail UK; Volga-Dnepr coordinates air logistics for Silk Way Rally 2011.

Icelandair has awarded a passenger, ramp and cargo handling contract to WFS in Washington Dulles. The airline launched five B757 flights a week from Washington in May, which will operate through to mid-October.

Drax Power has awarded DB Schenker Rail UK a new three-year contract to haul coal and limestone to the Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.

Under the new contract, DB Schenker Rail UK will continue to operate its existing coal services for Drax Power from ATH Resources and Keir Mining in Scotland, and from the Port of Immingham. New services to be operated by DB Schenker Rail under the contract include coal services from Hull Docks, and limestone services from Tunstead.

For the third consecutive year, Volga-Dnepr Airlines has been appointed to organise the air logistics for competitors in the Silk Way Rally 2011, part of the Dakar Series of international motor race events.
With responsibility for general coordination of all flight operations in support of the rally, Volga-Dnepr will arrange all flight clearances and official authorisations necessary for the joint flight detachment for off-track flying. This includes the use of restricted/prohibited airspace and military airstrips along the rally’s route.

The company will also provide general dispatch, navigation and aeronautical information services for the rally’s air operations which involves a fleet of seven airplanes and seven helicopters.
