Rhenus group launches major investment in Weil am Rhein

Rhenus group constructs new logistics centre in the border triangle Germany-Switzerland-France

In the immediate vicinity of the container terminal Weil am Rhein, the Rhenus group builds a new logistics centre on a 41,000 m2 plot. The enterprise invests a double-digit-million-Euros amount at the location in southern Baden.

The new building has the status of bonded warehouse and will cover 21,000 m2 storage space as well as 1,100 m2 office and social rooms. Taking into consideration the latest safety standards, a logistics centre with 31 gates and more than 35,000 slots for euro-pallets will be built. 12,000 positions thereof are designed for temperature-controlled warehousing and 6,000 m² for co-packing activities, such as price labelling, issuing of multi-packs and building displays. In addition there will be 18,000 shelves for small parts.

“This investment will strengthen our presence in the border triangle Germany-Switzerland-France. Our customers appreciate the combination of regional competence and a dense logistics network throughout Europe with intercontinental connection”, says Mike Siegwardt, regional manager at Rhenus. The project shall be finalised by mid-2011.
