Rhenus: New company slogan for its centenary

Rhenus group celebrates its 100-years jubilee and operates according to the motto “Together with Passion“

The Rhenus Group is celebrating the company’s founding a century ago this year. The family-managed business has developed from a regional company for shipping services, freight forwarding and warehousing into a global provider of logistics services within 100 years. Rhenus offers its customers a broad spectrum of services ranging from special transportation to port logistics and warehousing and even the destruction of data storage media and local public transport services.

“I’m very proud of what the members of staff have achieved together during the 100 years of the company’s history. Our new corporate slogan “Together with Passion” underlines this commitment. Rhenus’development into one of the largest logistics services providers in Europe demonstrates how the market place has welcomed our products,” says Klemens Rethmann, Rhenus CEO.

Rhenus has continually extended its network in Europe and beyond the continent since it was founded and does so by expanding existing business, setting up subsidiaries and joint ventures or making acquisitions. The latest involved the purchase of the continental European business activities of Wincanton. The takeover has enabled Rhenus to reinforce its range of services, particularly in the fields of intermodal transport and contract logistics in Germany and France. The acquisition has added another 3,000 employees and annual turnover of EUR 550 million to the Rhenus Group – on top of their 18,000 members of staff at 290 locations, who generated annual turnover of EUR 3 billion in 2010.

“Sound growth is one of our most important goals,” Klemens Rethmann explains. “The markets and our customers’ requirements are constantly changing. We want to adapt to these new conditions in order to remain competitive and establish a presence in new fields of business like high-tech logistics. It’s very important for us as a family-managed business to have a corporate strategy that is designed to achieve long-term success,” Klemens Rethmann adds.

Rhenus – Latin for Rhine – first saw the light of day on 13 November 1912: Badische Actiengesellschaft für Rheinschiffahrt und Seetransport and Rheinschiffahrts Actiengesellschaft jointly founded Rhenus Transport-Gesellschaft m.b.H. with its headquarters in Frankfurt/Main. Its task was to market shipping services, freight forwarding and warehousing. The company’s first branches were founded during the next few years – there were 21 of them in Germany alone by 1928. The company’s development has been closely linked to some big names in German corporate history like Fendel, Veba, Stinnes, Midgard, WTAG or Rethmann. Rhenus was welcomed into the Rethmann network of companies alongside Saria and Remondis in 1998.
