Rhomberg Bahntechnik starts private freight rail transport in Austria
Railway transport enterprise of Rhomberg Bahntechnik offers customised logistics solutions from February
These days a new private freight railway enterprise is to start operating in Austria. Rhomberg Bahntechnik with its headquarters in Bregenz has a European-wide traffic concession and all necessary approval documentation, to transport freight throughout the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) rail network. The business manager, Christian Schreiber, said that the private cargo railway company was established after two years of preparation. The Rhomberg freight rail transport company regards itself as a private service provider that covers more than just rail transport. Depending on customer requirements, the company will also offer tailor-made logistics solutions, ranging from simple transport tasks e.g. to and from construction sites to complicated transport management and goods handling for customers with rail sidings, including shunting, project and block trains. According to Mr. Schreiber, customers include the Ressourcen Center Rheintal and Bahnbau Wels companies of the Rhomberg group, as well as logistics and haulage companies who wish to outsource their rail transport services. Hubert Rhomberg, Managing Director of the Rhomberg group located in Bregenz, foresees a great future for the new railway segment. "Because I personally believe in the railway, and because sustainable transport fits in with our company strategy" says Mr Rhomberg, whose group company Ressourcen Center Rheintal, in Dornbirn, has one of the most well-maintained railway sidings in Austria. From Rhomberg’s point of view railway transport is undergoing a similar transition to that of the aviation industry: "In future, this industry will have some large players as well as small, flexible regional players who can contribute to a sustainable transport shift in the regions."
