Sacandlines enhances its offer from Germany to Latvia

Scandlines to increase the frequency of its ferry services to five departures per week from Travemünde to Ventspils and Liepaja from November:

Deploying a second ferry ship on the route from Travemünde to Liepaja, the Scandlines shipping group responds to the growing demand for cargo capacity on Baltic transport routes. In addition to the M/V Ask, from 3 November also M/V Urd will operate on this route. This involves an increased frequency to a total of three departures per week.

M/V Ask will depart from Travemünde on Tuesdays and Fridays; M/V Urd will depart on Thrusdays. M/V Ask departs from Liepaja on Thursdays and Sundays; M/V Urd on Saturdays. In total the frequency between Travemünde and the Lavtian ports Ventspils/Liepaja is increased to five departures per week.

In 2011 Scandlines registered significant growth of cargo transport to the Baltic States (around 35 per cent). In order to response to this demand, the shipping group chartered M/V Scottish Viking and M/V Watling Street – two new ferries for the routes Nynäshamn-Ventspils and Travemünde-Liepaja/Ventspils.

Scandlines was established in 1998 and counts among Europe’s biggest shipping companies. Their core business is passenger and cargo transport in the triangle between Germany, Denmark and Sweden, as well as on the routes to the Baltic States and to Finland. Last year the company transported 12.4 million passengers, 2.8 million cars and 800,000 trucks and trailers.
