Safmarine withdraws totally from Asia-Europe routes

Container shipping company Safmarine takes comprehensive steps to secure long-term profitability

The Belgian container shipping company Safmarine is to take an important change in its course. In a press release the Management announces the total withdrawal of the A.P. Moller Maersk Group affiliate from all routes between Asia and Europe. This measure affects all liner services with departure and destination ports on the north-west continent of Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, the Balkans and the Black Sea. This withdrawal will commence immediately, with final cargoes being shipped by the end of June.

This long-term decision has been taken to ensure a sustainable and profitable future for the enterprise, as the Safmarine headquarters announced. The shipping company will act as a regional carrier focussing on liner services to and from Africa, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.
